Matthew Cylinder is a New York based artist, photographer, illustrator and designer, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. Cylinder graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with his BFA in Photography.

Cylinder knows the limitations photography has and enjoys breaking them. He doesn't want the process to be easy but something that challenges him. With photography he can bridge the gap between his imagination, society, culture, science and the environment. He can be precise with the photographic process but also explore it, play with it's conventions, experiment with it and push it's limits to create new methods of story telling. His drawings weave together his undulation of thought on the human condition, existentialism, surrealism, architectural structures, environmental degradation and the natural world.
